Although my interests are varied I continue to focus on providing up-to-date information to non-profit organizations through my Web site 4npo.org. Recently, I've been working toward starting a non-profit organization, PhilaStories. The primary purpose of PhilaStories, or Philadelphia Stories, is to begin compiling a history of Philadelphia Neighborhoods using photos and text provided by Philadelphia residents. I incorporated PhilaStories in December 2004 and hope to apply for non-profit status this year. You can follow the development of PhilaStories on my Digital Divide Network blog where I've been writing about my somewhat slow progress.

Another blog of mine is, PhilaPhile, where I write about some of the things I do in Philadelphia and various other topics. In addition to working on PhilaStories I have occasionally been asked to develop Web sites and optimize sites for search engines. michael_feagans_photoI enjoy this work but I'm committed to developing sites that are accessible, easy to navigate, and attempt to educate their users. To this end I resist the many repeated suggestions by my so-called friends to add flash to my Web site. Evidently, for no apparent reason. One site that I developed and maintain is the, Behavioral Economics Consulting Group. Of course I enjoy this work very much as it's my wife's business Web site.

I've become quite an advocate for Flickr. A free, web based photo service site that has a great interface and has done an incredible job of creating an online community that works well. I have started a PhilaStories group on Flickr and I hope to use Flickr in some way on the PhilaStories Web site.

It's great to get of the house sometimes and meet with people who are involved in various ways with technology. To that end I've been attending a few local Meetups. The Philadelphia Webloggers Meetup is every 3rd Saturday of the month. As is the Wordpress Meetup which I recently signed-up to attend. Additional events I've attended recently are:

F2C: Freedom to Connect!
Laptop Central

and

Pop!Tech 2005
Mind and Body

As a volunteer I helped develop Web sites for the Fairmount Park Conservancy and the Smith Memorial Playground and Playhouse. And, every year I participate in the largest volunteer turnout in the country for the Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service.

A bit about my background: I have a B.S. in Psychology and M.S. in Information Studies from Drexel University. I have experience in community mental health where I was a program director at a community mental health center for the elderly. I also managed a community-based residential mental health program for adults.

As a fundraiser I have experience in Corporate and Foundation Relations working for Drexel University, and later, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
